What is your favorite movie soundtrack?

  • Gary, Artistic Director – Ascenseur Pour L’Echafaud. The soundtrack is done by Miles

Gary is our resident Francophile, and often reverts to speaking French when bored. His choice for favorite movie soundtrack is not surprising, bringing both his love for all things French together with his love for all things Jazz.

According to IMDB, “Miles Davis recorded the music with a quartet of French musicians in a few hours (from 11pm to 5am one night), improvising each number and sipping champagne with Jeanne Moreau and Louis Malle. “

Wikipedia tells us that, “The movie presents also unique and completely new solutions in the history of cinema in the relationship between music and image.[3]

The score by Miles Davis has been described by jazz critic Phil Johnson as “the loneliest trumpet sound you will ever hear, and the model for sad-core music ever since. Hear it and weep.”[4]

Whether you weep or not, we’d love to hear how you enjoyed it. Listen to the soundtrack here. Miles Davis – Ascenseur pour l’échafaud (Lift To The Scaffold)
