Performing Arts
Workshop's Artist Internship offers training and field
experience to artists interested in learning the Workshop's
approach to teaching young people the creative process.
The internship is a semester-long program (in general
September-January) for artists in dance, theatre arts,
creative writing and/or music. Interns will learn how
to write and teach lesson plans to children and youth,
ranging from pre-kindergarten to high school. Interns
receive approximately 60 hours of training over the course
of the semester.

THE INTERNSHIP INCLUDES
• Weekly observations
of mentor artist at work
• Observations of Workshop artists' residencies
• Evaluations from mentor artist and the Workshop's Artistic Director
• Practice teaching in a public school
• Discussions of teaching strategies
• Analysis of lesson plans
• Participation in workshops & meetings
• Experience working with artists, schools, and arts administrators
PREREQUISITES
Applicants must have a basic performing arts background of at least two
years of instruction in dance, theatre arts, creative writing and/or music. The
Workshop does not provide prior training. Some teaching experience in
public schools is required.
